Thornscapes grows and installs lush hedges that provide maximum security while improving the environment. We start with a professionally designed layout taking the site factors into account such as soils, sun patterns, and drainage. Our expert team understands the best conditions and planting techniques to produce a lovely low maintenance barrier that will provide long term security. We select the hardiest native and regionally adapted plants that best meet the demands and desired outcomes. In some settings, regionally adapted plants meeting our strict requirements are also mixed into the hedges.

Even though we use hardy natives, the new plants are still tender and require special care for a period of time until they are established. We recommend planting between the cooler months of October through March for the best start. The plants are in a more dormant phase and the cooler months are less stressful on the plant. Many of these native plants have a beneficial tap root system that makes them difficult to transplant in warmer seasons.

Once installed, the new hedge is a living wall, constantly growing and changing with the seasons. The plants will initially require daily watering and then progress to a regular irrigation schedule for the first year or two. As your hedge grows and becomes established, regular trimming and maintenance services may be used to achieve the desired size and shape for a long-lasting formidable security barrier.
