HEDGE STYLES
Security hedges by Thornscapes are designed to meet the goals of those in need of extra security. Our hedges are all different sizes, shapes, and styles. Thornscapes will select the best variety of plants that fit the site and security needs.
At the front of a building where the plants are viewed up close, a mix of dramatic agave, succulents and showy roses provide color and texture. Under windows options include a low growing manicured barrier hedge or a lush thicket teeming with wildlife.
Formal hedges are generally one plant variety and are trimmed to maintain a neat appearance. They can be low growing hedges to define a border or taller to block to passageway and views. These hedges will require more maintenance to produce a dense security obstacle that does not outgrow its purpose. By selecting plants with mature heights that match the desired hedge height, less maintenance is needed. The hardy plants selected may include non-natives that do well with trimming.
Informal hedges are a mix of native plant varieties that are allowed to grow into their natural forms. These informal hedges are considered by many to be the best option if your space will allow. The lovely natives can reach full size potential with just light periodic trimming, forming full and wide hedges. Untrimmed, the native plants are left to grow, bloom and produce seed and fruits which offers the greatest habitat biodiversity. The overlapping foliage produces a beautiful mix of colors, textures and shapes that change with every season as the hedge matures.
